Fashion In Movies: Limitless

If you’re an action slash thriller movie seeker, the movie Limitless is the right fit for you. It’s understandable to assume people don’t watch movies like this for the fashion, but when the two are combined, you have undivided attention. Limitless is an American made thriller inspired by a novel created in 2001 called The Dark Fields, by Alan Glynn. The movie begins with the main character Eddie Morra (Cooper) as a struggling journalist, who loses his girlfriend, and is on the verge of a career meltdown. In desperation, Cooper takes a drug called NZT introduced to him by a friend. The drug enables anyone to use % 100 of their brain power. Upon taking the drug, Cooper’s life changes drastically for the better. Unfortunately with more money came more problems, as cooper now starts to experience not only side effects from the drug, but also outside enemies after him. This movie has got a great story line, and the fashion is definitely something to buzz about.

Of course, when you picture a struggling journalist, you envision a scruffy looking character in rags. Well Bradley Cooper has a knack for making even that look sexy, so that style brought certain labels to mind. The Gap for example, they carry a relaxed worn look in their mens wear.

The faded denim jackets and comfy sweaters show the artistic free side of his character. After taking the pill, he suddenly becomes more aware of his potential and starts dressing himself in more stylish garments. He starts to be more business chic, so he sports tailored suits, and buttoned down pinstriped shirts. Of course brands like Prada and Gucci come to mind. The soft leather jacket is priceless, or pricey which ever works. Smooth black denim with designer accessories creates such a suave feel to his character in his “tycoon” stage.

I do want to talk about Robert De Niro’s style in this film. The character he plays is a rich business mogul named Carl Van Loon, who takes an interest in Cooper. He then becomes Cooper’s biggest nightmare. Carl from the start was dressed to the nine, with custom made suits and leather brief cases. His suits are obviously tailored to fit and the colors are rich with a bold strong statement. Although the main character Eddie dressed super high profile, he still had a comfortable un-stuffy feel to his style. For example, the way he wore his button down shirt was not buttoned to the collar, instead it was un-tucked and hidden under a casual black leather bomber jacket. The shoes where leather more than likely, which he wore with black denim pants; slim leg.

Limitless had such a smooth sexy vibe. I always love watching movies in which the character gets a makeover. The best parts to me are the transformations. It’s amazing what a nice hair cut and some quality clothing pieces can do. Maybe the pill he took did give him special powers, but you should always shoot for your highest potential and look good while doing it. Limitless is a sexy thriller with shocking twists and turns, and brilliant fashion inspiration.
